Year One
Welcome to Year One!
The teachers in the year group this academic year are, Mrs Welsh, Mrs Jobling and Mrs Smith. We are lucky enough to have Mrs Fowler working in Year One and all children in the year group will over the course of the year receive additional support or that extra boost in reading, spelling, writing or Numeracy.
In Year One the children are encouraged to develop their independent skills in all areas of the curriculum.
We have found it beneficial to set the children for Numeracy and Literacy, with target groups in each. Please be reassured that whatever group your child is working in they still receive the same level of teaching matched to their ability. These groups at all times are fluid and children are assessed on a regular basis and changed groups accordingly.
There is a shared area where the children have continuous provision access throughout the day, including, sand, water, paint and role play.
In Year One we are looking at the following topics this academic year, Fashion,Tinkerbelle and Peter Pan, Under the Sea, Dinosaurs, Castles and Pirates.
We have lots of exciting and stimulating activities planned, including a visit to Blue Reef Aquarium, and hopefully, the Hancock museum and the Stadium of Light.
There are lots of ways you can support your child's learning at home which will certainly benefit them at school, these are,
Ensuring your child returns their planner everyday.
Completing homework, given on a Thursday to be returned on a Monday
Helping with spellings, home reading books and tricky word lists.
Giving opportunities to use real money and telling the time.
Encouraging independent dressing and undressing.
It is vital your child has their PE kit in school, please could this be brought to school on a Monday and taken home to be washed on a Friday.
Giving your child opportunities to write, use scissors, draw pictures and write about places they have visited.
