Year Five

Welcome to Year 5
This year Mrs Henderson, Miss Todd and Mrs Telfer will be welcoming you to year five, where we have planned and arranged a stimulating year with lots of enjoyment and fun for all involved! 
The topics we will be covering have been selected from the children's suggestions and we hope to enhance learning further by organising a number of educational trips and visits... so watch this space!
 
We have a keen interest in ICT and over the course of the year hope to incorporate some exciting projects such as filmmaking and podcasting in to the curriculum.
 
Autumn Term
Our topics this term will be:
  • The History of Sunderland (Trip to Sunderland Museum and Woodhorn Colliery in Ashington).
  • The Solar System
Spring Term
Our topics this term will be: 
  • Climate Change
  • Film Production
 
Summer Term
Our topic this term will be:
  • World War Two (An evacuation to Beamish!)
Homework
Homework will be issued on a weekly basis and children will be responsible for writing this in their diaries. Please remind your child that they need to bring their diaries in everyday.
 
We will also be issuing weekly spelling and we would appreciate it if you could spend some time practising these with your child.

Literacy - Design an advert

 Look at a selection of adverts in newspapers or magazines. Think carefully about the features that you can see and then design your own. Your advert could be designed using ICT and it could be for a new snow product! The link below might help you to include all of the relevant features. We'll look forward to seeing some fantastic adverts on Monday - house points will be given!

Maths - Addition and Word Problem Practice

Some maths worksheets have been uploaded at the bottom of this page.  You can note down your answers or print them out and complete them.  There is an addition square for everyone and a word problem sheet for each maths class.
