Key Stage One SATs

During Year Two children will be assessed in English, Maths and Science and the results will be reported to parents and the Local Authority.  Children will be asked to complete tests, but the results are used only to inform the teacher.  It is the teacher's judgement that will be reported.

SATs

  • Standard Assessment Tasks or Tests
  • overall judgement of the level your child has reached in English, Maths and Science
  • based on assessments which are on-going throughout the year:
  • - asking and answering questions during lessons.
  • - work completed by your child.
  • - formal moderated work (tasks and tests).
  • through these we build up a picture of the knowledge, skills and understanding your child has.
  • these end of Key Stage assessments will hopefully be completed by the end of May 2008.

Tests

Children will be tested in Reading, Writing and Maths.  This is used to inform the teacher assessment at the end of the year.  There are a range of tests from which teachers choose, depending on the ability of the child.  Many of the tests will take place in a small group situation.  Generally, children will not be told that they are ‘sitting their SAT'. Science results reported are from teacher assessments only.

Please remember:

  • Any holidays taken in school time in Y2 is unauthorised. Every school day does count.  Assessment is on-going throughout the year.
  • At the end of the year you will receive a copy of their End of Key Stage 1 levels - these will show the teacher's assessment of where your child is in English, Maths and Science.
  • Please remember that each child has a different starting point and some lucky children find learning and remembering easy while others find it very challenging.
